I could NEVER be a model!
I had a really fun time last week at an annual fashion show last week. I work with Izzy and Hannah Vahaba, a father/daughter team that owns Izzy Maternity. They recruit customers who shop at their stores to model outfits for their fashion shows. I have the great opportunity to take preview pictures of the ladies before the event for a poster to promote the event. When I'm working with these ladies at their pre-show photo shoots, I normally ask "Have you ever modeled before". As expected, I get a 20/80%, yes/no split. And it's cool to chat about modeling experiences with the ones who have gone down that road. But what's interesting to me is that there are always a few ladies who say "Oh, I could never do that", like it's taboo or something. Funny... and it's almost always the really pretty ladies who say that. I don't really understand that response.
Now I know that modeling is not for everyone or easy. I've worked with models and agencies in the past and if you're pretty, that might get your foot in the door. Modeling is brutal, rarely fun, and a TON of work... ask any model. But isn't it just a job? You work hard, you get paid lots. Maybe you get you picture on the cover of a magazine if you're good, or a poster at a fashion show :), but that happens to 0.0000000001% (a rough estimate) of the models. Like any big star, Bruce Springsteen, Roger Staubach, Martha Stewart, Clint Eastwood,... there are a million people ready, willing and able to take the limelight away from them, snapping at their heels. Same thing for the top models. One in a million... right?
So maybe I'm not hearing these ladies who say they could never be a model. Maybe they know exactly what they're saying and I'm just hearing them wrong. Dee's gonna have a Hey-day with this one! She could have been a model, but I'm glad she not.
Have a look at some of these beautiful ladies and snapshots from the show here.
